Painting Progress in Early May

 Since my last update I went on vacation to see family, so my late March/Early April was spent away from my painting desk. Since I've been back though I've managed to do a little painting, as well as sorting through the miniatures in my collection and trying to figure out a plan for them. Having a plan will help me with color schemes. I kinda want to make a couple different Wood Elf armies, representing different seasons. Conveniently, the 8th edition rulebook provides some background lore on Wood Elves in the Warhammer world that includes sections of the forest locked in eternal winter or autumn, so if I want to do that sort of thing, I can make an army themed on a certain region, not just a time of year. 

Anyway, here's what I've managed:

I have started adding some layers to my unit of scouts. I had forgotten how much even just adding that brighter coat over the dark shade really helps the models pop. Still a ways to go, but it's definitely progress, and definitely looking good.

My mage has similarly gotten a bit of a face lift, as I'm sorting out the colors she's going to have. Note the little green figure on the base, that's a Spite, a mischievous forest spirit. In the 6th edition book these were extra abilities you could buy your characters, but in 8th edition they're just neat scenery on the models.

This is a movement tray I ordered for my scouts. If I were to ever actually play a game, this would help speed up the play by letting me move the whole unit at once, rather than each model individually.

The tray is plastic, I ordered it off bay. The little branches are extras from the wood elf archers kit that I added for some visual interest. I plan to paint this as well to add to the overall visuals of the unit.

Finally, here's an update on my Knight-Incantor model:

She's done! Or almost. I focused on her for a few hours one afternoon. I'm quite pleased overall. The face is a little off, but eyes are hard. The blue around the eyes is supposed to be like magic energy.

And there we have it. I'm starting to feel it again, the dopamine hit of painting these figures. It's been awhile, but finishing one to a pretty good standard makes me feel good. The scouts are also coming along quite well. I'm looking forward to finishing a few units so I can see them all lined up on a table someday.
